Floral linen in hotels

Friday, May 29th, 2009

What is your opinion on this? Do you like it? Are you indifferent? OR DOES IT PUT YOU OFF YOUR FOOD AND MAKE YOU SHUDDER?

I fall into the latter category, and this was a realisation I recently had due to a) looking at hotels b) my sister going on about how ‘gross’ floral linen is.

I figure the problem with it is that it feels dirty. You can’t see dirt on something so colourful, and as a result it makes me uncomfortable and I don’t really want my skin to touch off it. On a more unconscious level, it’s old fashioned, and therefore I guess implies it is old and therefore, again, unclean.

Personally I think there is nothing worse than arriving in a hotel in the middle of the night to find a worn floral bedsheet (COMPLETE WITH WORN FLORAL CUTAINS) as your room’s decor. If you don’t agree, direct yourself to the following pictures:

WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Protip: never pick at spots (or ‘pimples’ if you’re that way inclined) before important interviews

Friday, May 29th, 2009

So yesterday I had an important interview (which I assume you gathered from the title) and before going in I went to the bathroom, to pee and to fiddle with my face, as the totally vain human being I am (not about the peeing…I mean about the face fiddling).

I needed to moisturise, because my skin is really dry from the medication I am on…but after I did that I notice the massive spot on my face looked pickable (ie – it looked like it had dried enough for me to pick at it without too much bloody). Oh how wrong I was. THE BLEEDING WOULDN’T STOP. I realised I was going to be late, so I grabbed some tissue and semi-ran to the location, while trying to inconspicuously dab at my gushing face. Alas, the gushing did not cease, so I went though said important interview with blood pouring from the huge AND MORE OBVIOUS THAN EVER spot on my face.

LESSON LEARNED.

Story of the day: bitchy cashier

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

So while waiting on my sister at the train station today I decided to buy lunch…because it was lunchtime. DESIONS DESIONS. I doddled about the store for a few minutes, torn between some kinda prawn salad and a sandwich when I spotted sushi; DESIONS MADE. Now for the next obstacle: paying. The cue wasn’t long (yay), but when I got to the front the women asked me if I’d like a bag. I said “no” clearly enough, BUT SHE ASKED AGAIN…this time however she moved close to me and had the most patronising tone to her voice that I had ever faced.

I wish I had had a witty comeback to her bitchiness, people, but being me I didn’t. I just angrily said “no”, grabbed my sushi and walked quickly away.

Stay tuned for another story of the day probably not tomorrow or the day after or the day after that or the day after the day after that, but maybe after the day after the day after that.

So until then, good day, folks!

RANDOM PICTURE TIME

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

So on my last blog I had this “random picture” feature going on where I’d upload one of the many pictures I have on my computer, just for the sake of it. I’m gonna do that again in this blog, SO HERE WE GO… (I think I say that far to often…any time I make a post that isn’t an emo rant/random thought).

Nothing much to say about this one. I just thought it was vaguely amusing. STAY TUNED FOR MORE VAUGLY AMUSING RANDOM PICTURES.

More music Youtube videos!

This time the genre is indie. Indie is a horribly vague and argued about genre, but this is my interpretation, k? Feel free to argue with me if you’re that way inclined, however. (Yes I am desperate for comments, thanks).

To start of with a very well known band…

The Coral – Bill McCai

My favorite Coral song. Catchy and horribly depressing!

The Dears – Warm and Sunny Days

SO PAINFUL. This song makes me ache. It is so beautiful, but urgh, it’s gut-wrenching. The guy’s voice is incredible and you can hear the anguish so clearly in his voice. The Dears are amazing, and they’re way underappreciated. I dunno how stuff like Bright Eyes gets so popular when these guys seem to be unheard of by most.

…and for something cheerier

Dogs Die In Hot Cars – I Love You ‘Cause I Have To

Pretty much unknown Scottish band. This is happy and fun stuff, and their album is awesome.

Timid Tiger – Combat Songs and Traffic Lights

I demand you listen to this and try not to smile. IT’S IMPOSSIBLE I TELL YOU. Electro-indie goodness.

Frank Turner was the lead singer of Million Dead and has gone on to a solo project very different from what his now defunct band was. I class him as indie, and this is a nice song.

The Thermals are probably my favorite indie band of the moment. I’ve known of them for ages but suddenly a few weeks ago something clicked and I decided they are awesome. I’m not sure how this happened, but this track is my favorite of theirs.

Very similar to the subways, both in sound and the fact they have the whole guy+girl thing going on. V good. CHECK THEM OUT.

FREE LEGAL ALBUMS

I have added a new section this blog, and the link is in the “navigation” section of the sidebar. I think you should check it out.

I’m supposed to be studying…

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

But I dunno WTF to study.

I have an oral exam tomorrow which consists of an examiner asking me questions about anything to do with the course in order to assess what he deems I am worthy of for my degree, and I can’t study the whole damn course.

I’m thinking this means I should just not study anything. My logic is sound I tell you.

Is this normal?

Every time I go to eat some fruit I pick the old, slightly rotted stuff, because I feel sorry for it. : (

Dammit >: (

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I am being emotionally blackmailed into going to the Scottish highlands with my mother and sister.

This is lame. My dad is all “I HAVE DEPRESSION; GO AND MAKE THEM HAPPY WITHOUT ME” and my mum is all “this is the only holiday I’m getting; make it special “. Then there’s my sister who is all “I’M NOT GOING ALONE “.

Family huh. Oh well, it’s still a holiday, even if it is in my own boring country.

Social skills vs socialising

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I hate it when people think these two things are the same. I hate it because I’m not big on socialising but have good social skills.

So what are social skills? Social skills are the ability to act appropriately in situations and to read people. Socialising is just being around people. I don’t wish to be around most people, making me asocial…but asocial =/= no social skills. Plenty of very popular people have no social skills and all! Like that friend you have who rambles on about how some boring machine works when you obviously don’t give a crap, or that other friend who says awkward things loudly, making you feel awkward.

OK this was a shit rant, but it’s just something that bugs me. GOOD DAY, FOLKS.
